The prices in the NHS Drug Tariff make little sense as the prices of each formulation can be different. For that reason, it is better to look up prices in the dm+d database. Links in my UK thyroid hormones document.
Overview
The NHS Drug Tariff lists the costs of most medicines used in the NHS in England.
The NHSBSA (NHS Business Services Agency) manage the NHS Drug Tariff. Technically this is part of NHS England.
This is something like a price list but the prices shown are subject to all sorts of adjustments. For example, if there is a tariff price, that is what the NHS will usually pay to a pharmacy but there might be some adjustments based on the assumption the pharmacy will already be getting a discount from the distributor. And some medicines have formal list prices which have been agreed.
Important Note
The cost to a pharmacy might be greater, possibly very much greater, than these tariff prices.
The cost to a private patient buying from a pharmacy might be greater, possibly very much greater, than these tariff prices.
When you look at the details, the system is complex and seems always to be changing.

What are the categories of drugs in the Drug Tariff?
There are 3 categories of drugs in the Drug Tariff, categories A, C and M.
Category A
This category lists the drugs that are readily available.
The reimbursement price for each of these drugs is calculated from a basket list of suppliers.
Category C
This category lists drugs that are not readily available as a generic and their price is based on a particular brand or supplier.
Category M
This category lists drugs which are readily available.
The reimbursement price is calculated by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) based on information submitted by manufacturers.

The manufacturer or supplier (Sixth column)
The company that supplies this product. This is only shown when there is a sole supplier. Products supplied by two or more companies leave this blank.
Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales
Northern Ireland has a similar system but the differences are significant.
Scotland has a similar system but the differences are significant. It is more difficult to view because there is no overall search - the data is in a collection of spreadsheets.
