helvella - Hidden Members

When a member leaves HealthUnlocked, two things can happen to their member name as shown in posts and replies. Either it remains as ever it was. Or it gets changed to Hidden. There are several reasons it might get changed including certain technical issues.

If the name changes, it does so everywhere: On posts, on replies, where someone replies to one of their posts or replies, where someone has called out (or mentioned) them such that their name turned blue.

However, it does NOT change the name where someone has simply typed the name but not converted it to a call-out (or mention) - and it has not turned blue.

Any thread with the member name Hidden can get confusing. Worse, if TWO members have left, the replies by both of them turn into Hidden and there is no way of telling whether they were by the same former member - or two (or more!) former members.

There is often no way of identifying which member is now Hidden. However, if there is a reply which specifically identifies the original member name. Or you have received an alert email which included the original member name.

Nor will we be able to find out they they are no longer members. Occasionally we might find out through things like a member posting that they are leaving HealthUnlocked.

Of course, if the name changes to Hidden, none of us can contact them by Private Message (Chat). Nor can they do anything at all. Nor can anyone sign up with the member name Hidden.

The member name Hidden when it has not converted to a call-out (mention)

The member name Hidden when simply typed

In general, there is no point in replying to posts/replies by Hidden. However, just occasionally, it could be reasonable.

The moderators will often close posts by Hidden to try to avoid confusion and inadvertent replies.

This is meant as an explanation to help members. There are many reasons members could leave and become Hidden and this is not meant in any way as criticism.
